Facilities include beach areas at both ends of the lake, a boat ramp, barbecues and picnic areas, children’s playground and toilets.

This reserve is located on Tarawera Road and is an ideal spot for picnicking. Lake Tikitapu also known as Blue Lake is an exceptionally popular site for water sports such as water skiing, jet skiing, rowing and power boat racing. Special conditions apply for water skiing and information on this can be obtained from the signs located at the boat ramp. The south side of the lake also has good swimming beaches which are accessible from the walkway and from the lookout carpark between the Blue and Green Lakes.
