Come and explore some of our district’s history! Interactive, educational and suitable for the whole family!
The Rotorua Settlers' and Steam Museum's fascinating collections comprise artefacts and objects from the district's past, items from people's work and everyday lives, including vintage machinery and some historic buildings which are set in beautiful gardens. A highlight are the eight working stationary steam engines (powered by steam from a wood-fired 8hp boiler), which visitors get to see in action on the monthly Steam Day (the second Sunday of each month).
Entrance fees apply. Children under 16 are free. Group discounts available. Open Thursdays and Sundays from 10am-4pm (last entry 3pm). Other times by appointment for groups. The Te Amorangi Trust Museum Inc. is a not-for-profit organisation, that welcomes volunteers who would like to use and share their trades, skills and knowledge! There is a variety of volunteer tasks available, assisting with the day-to-day operation of the museum, caring for our collections, and maintaining and improving the site.
